Kevin Durant's injury not as serious as anticipated

The Golden State Warriors forward – and former Texas Longhorn – suffered a calf strain in game five against the Houston Rockets.

OAKLAND, Calif. — During Wednesday's game five of the Western Conference Semifinals, it was as if the basketball world had a moment of silence when this moment occurred with 2:05 remaining in the third quarter.

That's the moment Longhorn-for-life Kevin Durant realized something wasn't right. While jogging back to play defense after making a shot, he stopped and looked back at his right leg.

Durant paused and looked as if he knew this could be a serious injury.

On Twitter, the media, the fans and former players all posted tweets acknowledging it was the worst case scenario – a torn Achilles tendon.

Instead, it was not as severe as anticipated. KD suffered a mild strain on his right calf and will be reevaluated next week.

This was confirmed in a statement released by the Golden State Warriors on Thursday afternoon after Durant underwent an MRI Thursday morning,

"The MRI confirmed the initial diagnosis (strained right calf)," it states.

That injury is not one to ignore. KD will miss the remainder of the series against Houston, a series in which the Warriors took a 3-2 lead in after beating Houston, 104-99. Golden State can close out the series and advance to the Western Conference Finals with a win in Houston on Friday night.

If the Warriors advance to the Western Conference Finals, KD is expected return at some point during that series.
