AUSTIN — The state environmental protection agency, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, approved fines totaling $449,754 this week.

Some of the violations could impact the Edwards Aquifer, which is a huge water source for our area.

Records show Monterey Oaks Corporate Park off MoPac failed to test its sewage collection system and didn't get an Edwards Aquifer Protection Plan for aboveground storage tanks by Building A and Building E. The total penalty assessed is $14,407. The company paid $11,526 to TCEQ. The state deferred $2,881.

Also listed in the records in Austin is Bird's Tire Services off East Seventh street. The state records show the company owes $5,000 in fines for not use any documentation on how they removed and managed scrap tires. KVUE Defenders discovered the business is closed. It's now Leal's Tires. State business filings indicate different owners.
