Keep Austin Local: Austin Rock Gym

Support local while trying out a new hobby.

AUSTIN, Texas — Central Texans have seen many businesses shutting down because of the COVID-19 pandemic. KVUE wants to help "Keep Austin Local" by highlighting small businesses that might need a little help.

On Wednesday, KVUE stopped by Austin Rock Gym to learn about its history and find out what it offers.

The rock climbing gym opened up in 1998 and has weathered many storms, but none like the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff had to close the gym for a while but are thankful they didn’t have to close their doors for good.

Co-owner Troy Wilson said a big part of being able to still be around is community support.

Austin Rock Gym focuses on instruction and prepares people for outdoor rock climbing. It offers climbing lessons, belay training, intro to wilderness medicine, youth programs and more.

The gym is located in North Austin at 8300 N. Lamar Blvd., Suite B102. You can learn more about it here
