7 adults, 6 children displaced in North Austin house fire, AFD says

Austin FD also said multiple people have been evaluated for smoke inhalation.

AUSTIN, Texas — Thirteen people – including six children – have been displaced after a fire broke out in a North Austin neighborhood Thursday morning.

According to the Austin Fire Department, the fire has been extinguished as of 9:24 a.m. Firefighters responded at around 8:25 a.m. to 10609 Jean Drive located between North Lamar Boulevard and Interstate 35, where they found a single-family residence with a fire in the back of the home.

All residents of the home were able to get out of the house, but multiple people were evaluated for smoke inhalation, the AFD said. Seven adults and six children have been displaced by the fire, authorities said.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, but firefighters believe the fire likely started due to an electrical issue.
