UT police give tips to protect belongings after seeing increase in on-campus thefts

Officials said reducing opportunities for theft makes UT Austin safer.

AUSTIN, Texas — After an increase in thefts on campus, police at the University of Texas are giving tips to students and staff on how to protect their property.

UTPD said the majority of the crimes have a common factor: property left unattended.

Here are the tips: 

  • Be observant
  • Get to know neighbors in your workplace event if it includes different departments
  • Secure your valuables or take them with you
  • Know your options for reaching UTPD if you determine someone is suspicious
