AUSTIN — Thieves are now targeting truck tailgates in the Austin area.
In December, two people were arrested for stealing five tailgates in New Braunfels, which is roughly 50 minutes southwest of Austin, but it's happening in Austin too.

Thieves look for unlocked tailgates because they can be easily removed. Tailgates are worth about $1,300.
Police said you should lock your tailgate, park in well-lit areas and don't leave valuables in your truck or in the back.
