Woman wanted for fatally shooting man after argument over bouncy house turns herself in

An arrest warrant for first-degree murder was issued for 30-year-old Nora Lee Lopez.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police are investigating a suspicious death that was reported in East Austin on Nov. 1.

According to the Austin Police Department, the death was reported at the 8400 block of Garcreek Circle, which is near Loyola and Decker lanes. Police said officers responded after reports of multiple gunshots around 8:10 a.m.

Arriving at the scene, officers found a man in his early 50s with injuries in a weeded area, APD said. No weapon has been located. The victim was identified on Nov. 4 as James Traylor. Medics transported Traylor to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead at 9:11 a.m.

APD initially said that a person of interest had been detained for questioning, but there was not a suspect in custody. Witnesses are cooperating with the investigation, police said.

Witnesses told APD that an altercation broke out between Traylor and a female neighbor, identified as Nora Lee Lopez, over an alleged theft of a "bouncy house." Witnesses told police the altercation ended with Lopez shooting Traylor multiple times and then running away.

Police said this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public. An arrest warrant for first-degree murder was issued for Lopez. She has since turned herself in.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact APD at 512-477-3588 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 512-472-TIPS.

This is Austin's 77th homicide of the year.
