Report: Developers ready to break ground on 2,200-home community in Hays County

Construction is set to begin this month.

HAYS COUNTY, Texas — Construction will begin soon on a new subdivision in Hays County from a subsidiary of D.R. Horton Inc., according to a report from the Austin Business Journal.

The community will be called Prairie Lakes and will have 2,200 lots for single-family homes, apartments and duplexes on about 1,000 acres of land.

The developer registered 11 Williamson Road in Niederwald as the address for the municipal utility district formation, southeast of Buda and in the extraterritorial jurisdiction of Niederwald. The land also sits in part of Kyle's ETJ, according to the report.

Single-family homes in the planned development will be a minimum of 1,200 square feet with 20 acres of multifamily also planned. An additional 20 acres of commercial property is also set aside, but no commercial partners have been finalized, officials told the ABJ.

Construction is set to begin this month with the developer starting to build on the Niederwald side first and then starting on the portion of land in Kyle in about a year.
