Road closures have begun for the Austin Marathon

More than 15,000 runners will hit the pavement in Austin on Sunday for the annual Austin Marathon.

More than 15,000 runners will hit the pavement in Austin on Sunday for the annual Austin Marathon.

There are children's races happening Saturday before the big race on Sunday.

The race routes stretch from 45th Street to Ben White Boulevard and from Mopac East to Airport Boulevard.

The paths vary depending on the race, and closures will be intact until Sunday at noon. 

Northbound alternate routes are Mopac, Lamar and I-35. 

If you're going east or west, consider taking 45th Street, Koenig Lane or U.S. 183.

The roads will reopen Sunday afternoon.
