Austin police officers involved in pair of early-morning crashes

None of the officers were injured, and one of the drivers involved was taken into custody.

AUSTIN, Texas — A pair of early-morning crashes at 15th Street and Interstate 35 involved Austin Police Department officers.

The first crash happened shortly before midnight when an officer was working a scene and a vehicle crashed into a car at the same location.

After that crash, other officers arrived to help. Moments after their arrival, another vehicle crashed into yet another vehicle at the same scene.

None of the officers were injured, and one of the drivers involved were taken into custody.

No additional information is available at this time.

It's important to remember that you should always slow down or move over for stopped emergency vehicles, including police cars, fire trucks and tow trucks.

Texas law requires drivers to slow down at least 20 mph under the posted speed limit or, if they're able, to change lanes when passing a first responder stopped on the road with their emergency lights activated. Failure to do so could result in serious penalties.
