Texas Longhorns prepare for big game against USC in Austin Saturday

Saturday's game is a college football showdown in Austin between two of the game's winningest programs: the Longhorns and Trojans.

AUSTIN — It’s University of Southern California week for the Longhorns football team.

This faceoff is a college football showdown in Austin between two of the game’s winningest programs: the Longhorns and Trojans.

The men of Troy leads this series 5 to 1. That one loss was the University of Texas' national title clincher in the 2006 at the historic Rose Bowl.

That is a loss Southern California doesn’t acknowledge. “Texas got the 'W' and the national championship. That’s what I saw”, said Texas defensive end, Charles Omenihu.

The USC media guide vacated that loss to Texas due to NCAA violations.

Last year, Texas fell USC in overtime at The Coliseum in Los Angeles, a game in which Sam Ehlinger started as a quarterback his freshman year. “Everybody shouldn’t have to be told who we’re playing," said Ehlinger.

This is setting up to be a pivotal game for the Longhorns, a team that needs an infusion of confidence and success against a big-named opponent.

“Everybody knows how big this game is. We know what will happen if we win this game”, said Texas defensive tackle, Chris Nelson.

What will happen is the Longhorns faithful will have renewed hope and optimism for the remaining nine games of the season.

Last week, Stanford handed the Trojans their first loss of the season while Texas hung on to beat Tulsa 28 to 21.
