NEW ORLEANS — Allow me to begin with a Big Easy weather update with a hint of sarcasm: 200 percent humidity, balmy and a 100 percent chance of perspiration -- ideal conditions for the Sugar Bowl Parade here in NOLA.
The muggy conditions didn't dampen the spirit of Longhorns and Georgia Bulldog fans along the route of the Sugar Bowl Parade.
As New Orleans' finest members of the local police department cleared the path for the parade, both fan bases were vocal. Groups of red-and-black-clad University of Georgia fans yelled loudly in sing-song voices, "Go Georgia Bulldogs."
Especially when their beloved bulldog mascot was driven by, calmly sitting in the back of his car with the hatchback up for everyone to see UGA, the Bulldog.
Simultaneously, multiple Longhorn fans yelled, "Hook Em Horns," as the most revered bovine in America drove by, standing in his luxury trailer. The Texas Silver Spurs walked behind Bevo XV as his trailer was pulled along slowly by a truck on the parade route on Peters Street.
It was quite a site to see, especially for Longhorn fans like Tal Milan and his daughter, Sophie Milan.
Tal was holding Sophie, a teenager, above his head.
When asked about the view of the parade above her father, "It looks great," said Sophie while laughing.
A unique experience for all, including Pflugerville High School's head football coach, Charlie Taylor, and his family.
"This is the first time I've been here, and for him (his son) as well," said Taylor.
An amazing experience, which included an up-close view of UT's band marching, the Showband of the Southwest.
The Texas cheerleaders shared the space on a float with the University of Georgia cheerleaders, all of which tossed Mardis Gras beads -- fitting for a parade in NOLA.
I was actually beaned a few times by said Mardi Gras beads, all part of the Sugar Bowl week experience as the hype of the big game is peaking.
Texas and Georgia square off at the Superdome in New Orleans at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday night.
