Drew Brees becomes all-time passing leader in NFL history

Westlake's own Drew Brees has made NFL history, surpassing Peyton Manning's record after throwing a 62-yard touchdown pass Monday night.

Drew Brees passed Peyton Manning as the NFL's all-time passing leader when he threw a 62-yard touchdown pass to Tre'Quan Smith during Monday night's game against the Washington Redskins.

Manning's record of 71,940 yards is broken by the former Westlake star in the Austin area.

Brees celebrated the record-setting night in New Orleans with his wife and four children as play was stopped for the historic event.

Brees led Westlake to a state championship in 1996 and then was a star QB at Purdue. He was drafted by the Chargers in 2001 and played in San Diego for five years. He left in 2006 for New Orleans and won the Super Bowl in the 2009 season.

The 39-year-old Brees broke Brett Favre's career record of 6,300 completions earlier this season. Brees still needs 42 touchdown passes to beat Manning's record of 539, which would take playing into 2019.
