It's National Work Zone Awareness Week in Texas

The Texas Department of Transportation is holding an awareness week to remind drivers to drive safely around work zones.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation wants to remind drivers to use extra caution around work zone areas amid National Work Zone Awareness Week. 

Awareness week kicks off Monday, April 8 and lasts until Friday, April 12. 

It's meant to remind drivers to slow down and stay alert around construction zones.

By law, drivers should slow down to 20 miles per hour in a work zone, or they could face a $2,000 fine.

According to TxDOT, in 2018, there were 161 deadly crashes reported around work zones.
