The Texas State University Police Department has named an interim police director after the prompt resignation of Jose L. Banales Wednesday.

In a statement, the University said effective immediately, Captain Rickey Lattie will take the place of Banales until they've had time to conduct a national search for a new police director.

The University provided very little details on why Banales resigned in their statement.

Lattie has served with the Texas State Police Department for 33 years and has acted as an interim director for the department several times in the past.

"I want to thank Captain Lattie for assuming these responsibilities during this transition, and I have full confidence in his ability to lead the University Police Department during this period," the University said in a statement.
