Texas Attorney General's Office launches new site to help fight opioid abuse

The new "Dose of Reality" site is meant to educate Texans on the dangers of misusing prescription painkillers.

AUSTIN, Texas — In 2016 alone, nearly 1,400 people died in Texas because of opioid drugs, which includes substances such as prescription painkillers like hydrocodone and oxycodone.

Now, Texas has a new website designed to offer help. It's called Dose of Reality. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton launched it Tuesday.

The new site is meant to educate Texans about the dangers of misusing prescription painkillers.

It also shows drug take-back locations all over the state to safely get rid of prescription medications.

Other states have similar sites.
