A man has been charged after he allegedly shot and killed his wife during an argument early Sunday morning.

Austin police have charged Michael Volmer, 42, with murder in the death of Nicole Volmer, 40. Officers were called to a home in the 4500 block of Walton Heath Circle (near Onion Creek Parkway) around 12:25 a.m. Sunday for a reported shooting. Nicole was transported to South Austin Hospital by Austin-Travis County EMS where she later died from her injuries.

According to the arrest affidavit, the couple had been in an argument. A teen living in the home heard a noise, went to the master bedroom and found Michael applying pressure to a gunshot wound in Nicole's side. The teen called 911, and told police that Michael told her "I threw the gun onto the bed and it went off."

In an interview with police, Michael said he and his wife had been in an argument and escalated to the point a gun was brought out. The affidavit states Michael told police he threw the gun onto the bed, at which time it discharged and hit Nicole. The deputy medical examiner who performed the autopsy on the victim told police the bullet was fired in a downward trajectory.

Michael Volmer was booked into the Travis County Jail on Sunday morning. Online records state bond has been set at $100,000.
