Last minute holiday shopping leads to a busy weekend for Terra Toys in North Austin

When parents are left with last minute shopping, Terra Toys in North Austin gets pretty busy.

AUSTIN — It's that time of the year again, where cheer is in the air and last minute shopping has to be done.

"It's the last Saturday before Christmas, so yes, it's gonna be super busy. But, I love it though," Charlie, a cashier at Terra Toys, said.

When parents are left with last minute shopping, Terra Toys gets pretty busy.

According to the store's general manager, Sylvia Edwards, the store does one-third of their annual sales during December.

Whether it's family members looking for their own gifts or people choosing off of the store's top 10 list, there is something for everyone.

"The first one is the MyLand fire truck, the second one is the Heart to Heart girls doll and then we have the Snap Circuit," Edwards said, describing the top three toys on their list.

The list is picked by the staff of the store. Each employee gives their top 10 list and then the most popular items make it to the final list.

Edwards said it's the unique personality of each employee that makes the store special.

"Among our staff, we have jokes that I'm a nine-year-old girl," Edwards said. "Noah over there, he's a 12-year-old boy...Dave is definitely a five-year-old boy...and Charlie is either a 13-year-old or a one-year-old... So, we all represent different age ranges."

Because it's the special personal touches that they say make their store different and bring the magic in the air to life this time of year.
