1 person killed in South Austin crash on I-35 ramp

A man who was pinned under a vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene by Austin-Travis County EMS.

AUSTIN, Texas — One person is dead after a crash in South Austin on Sunday afternoon.

The Austin Fire Department said crews responded to the Interstate 35 southbound ramp at Ben White Boulevard for a vehicle rescue at around 1:40 p.m.

A man who was pinned under a vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene by Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS).

The Austin Police Department said the crash involved a sedan and a pick-up truck. The driver of the sedan was hit outside the vehicle and was the person pronounced dead on the scene. The pick-up driver was not injured, and they remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The crash is being investigated as Austin's 72nd fatal crash of 2023, resulting in 75 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2022, 85 fatal crashes had resulted in 87 deaths.
