AUSTIN, Texas — A missing 16-year-old who was believed to be in the Austin area has been found safe, the Austin Police Department said in an update on Tuesday afternoon.
On Monday, the department's Human Trafficking Unit asked for the public's help in locating the girl, who was last seen in Wichita, Kansas, more than three weeks ago.
According to APD, the girl was last seen in Wichita on Jan. 14. APD said Smith is a "high-functioning autistic missing/endangered runaway," and police said it was possible she could have been in the Austin area with an adult man. Police had concerns about the girl's immediate welfare.
APD said the investigation is ongoing, and no further details are available at this time.
