Construction at Slaughter Lane and South 1st Street in Austin to cause delays

Construction to improve Slaughter Lane at the South First Street intersection is now underway and will last for the next six months.

AUSTIN — Construction has begun to improve the Slaughter Lane and South 1st Street intersection and will last for the next six months.

Traffic at the intersection will have heavier backups than usual as drivers adjust the work zone.

The South Austin intersection will be safer after construction is done as crews are adding new turn lanes, improving sidewalks and crosswalks.

Crews just finished up work on Slaughter Lane at Cullen which is just a few blocks away. There, crews made turn lanes longer and added better crosswalks and bike lanes.

Drivers should plan ahead as traffic will have delays due to the adjustment in routes during the construction.
