No explosive device found after reports of suspicious package in Downtown Austin

Austin police say the area near East Sixth and Red River streets has reopened following the incident.

AUSTIN, Texas — No explosive device was found following reports of a suspicious package in Downtown Austin.

The incident was reported around 8 p.m. Thursday in the area of East Sixth and Red River streets.

After further investigation, the Austin Police Department's Bomb Squad reported that the item was not an explosive device and that the area had reopened to the public.

Thursday's incident was the second involving a bomb threat this week after a person was taken into custody in southwest Austin.

Police want to remind the public to say something if they see something suspicious.
