Two bodies found at Texas park after an AMBER Alert was issued for missing mother and son

Officials said a custody hearing between the boy’s mother and father was scheduled for Tuesday, hours after the bodies were found.

SAN ANTONIO — Authorities confirmed two bodies found in a drainage easement near a west-side San Antonio park are that of a 3-year-old boy and his mother who were the subjects of an AMBER Alert issued early Tuesday morning.

Deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) responded to a home on Dovers Den Monday night for a welfare check on Savannah Kriger, but Sheriff Javier Salazar said they weren't able to get inside. They also noticed that Kriger's vehicle was not at the home.

With the help of a family member, authorities were able to gain access and reportedly found concerning evidence that led them to believe the mother and her child, Kaiden, were in danger.

Officials say that Savannah Kriger left work early Monday to pick up Kaiden at his daycare and take him to a doctor's appointment. Her white 2023 Lincoln Aviator was later found abandoned at Tom Slick Park off State Highway 151 East.

Investigators said they weren't able to locate the mother or child overnight. On Tuesday morning park police continued the search and found the two bodies located near a ditch.

Authorities say a gun was recovered at the scene.

This case is now being investigated as a murder/suicide and there are no outstanding suspects at this time. Friday, the Medical Examiner ruled Kaiden Kriger's death a homicide and said he died from a gunshot wound. Savannah Kriger's death was also confirmed as being due to a gunshot wound, but the Medical Examiner did not release a manner of death.

Officials added that they believe there had been an ongoing custody battle for the child between the mother and father. A hearing was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

Many family members remained on the scene for hours and are reportedly cooperating with authorities.
