Coronavirus updates in Central Texas: Monday stat tracker

Here are the latest COVID-19 updates in Central Texas for Monday, Feb. 21.

COVID-19 numbers:

  • Texas: 
  • Central Texas counties: 
    • Austin-Travis County: The seven-day moving average for new hospital admissions is 42, and an average of 33 people are hospitalized. The community transmission rate is 148.6 (high) and the positivity rate is 12%. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 189,146 cases have been reported and at least 1,336 people have died.
    • Hays County: There are currently 3,364 active cases, and 21 people are currently hospitalized. Since the beginning of the pandemic, at least 51,902 confirmed cases have been reported and at least 471 people have died. 
    • Williamson County: There are 82 new cases of coronavirus in Williamson County.  Eight percent of hospital beds are available, and 4% of ICU beds are available. Since the beginning of the pandemic, at least 108,963 cases have been reported and at least 839 people have died.

  • 8.29% positivity statewide

LOCAL

  • 153 new cases for the 4-county Austin metro
    • 7-day average: 323/day
      • Down 10% day-to-day
      • Down 48% from a week ago
      • Down 92% from a month ago (Down from around 4,000 30 days ago)
  • Community transmission for Austin-Travis County now approaching Stage 4 territory (<100) at 116.33 cases per 100,000
  • 339 COVID-19 patients in Austin area (TSA O) hospitals
    • -33 from yesterday
    • 9% bed availability
  • 93 COVID-19 patients in Austin area (TSA O) ICUs
    • -17 from yesterday
    • 8.5% bed availability (35 adult, 8 pediatric = 43 beds)

Updates:

6:30 a.m. – Starting Monday, masks will be strongly recommended on Round Rock ISD campuses. Previously, they had been required. Visitors, at the principal's discretion, will also be allowed back on campuses.

Other COVID-19 measures – such as the notification of confirmed cases, social distancing and the closure of classes with evidence of COVID-19 spread – remain in place to maintain low case counts.
