APD: 19-year-old arrested after bicyclist killed in crash in northeast Austin

Court records show 19-year-old Alexis Acevedo was arrested and charged with two felonies following the deadly crash.

AUSTIN, Texas — A man is in custody after a deadly crash involving two vehicles and a bicycle in northeast Austin.

Police say 19-year-old Alexis Acevedo was allegedly driving along East Parmer Lane and Harris Branch Parkway on Dec. 12 when he crashed with a second vehicle and a bicycle.

According to Austin police, Acevedo allegedly ran from the scene while the other driver stayed and cooperated with authorities. The man on the bicycle, identified as 31-year-old Ashton Hutchison, died at the scene.

Records show following Acevedo's arrest that he was charged with possession of a controlled substance and accident involving death, which are both felonies. He remains in jail on a combined bond of $60,000.

Police say the crash remains under investigation and that this is the 87th deadly crash of 2023, resulting in 90 deaths. If you have information on the crash, contact the Vehicular Homicide unit of the Austin Police Department at 512-974-8111.
