Mother arrested following investigation into infant's death in Central Austin

An investigation into the death led to police finding the infant's sister with injuries described as "non-accidental."

AUSTIN, Texas — A mother was arrested following an investigation into an infant's death earlier this month.

Brittney Alisha Bailey, 31, was charged after a 3-month-old was found not breathing at an apartment complex in Central Austin.

According to the Austin Police Department (APD), authorities responded to The Revl Apartments on North Lamar Boulevard on Sunday, March 10. When they found the infant not breathing, the baby was taken to the hospital for treatment. The infant died on March 15.

During APD's investigation, detectives discovered the infant's twin sister had injuries that didn't appear accidental. Bailey was later charged with felony injury to a child in connection with the sister's injuries. It's unclear now if she will face additional charges in the case.

APD said the case is being investigated as Austin's 12th homicide of 2024. Anyone with additional information on the case should contact police at 512-974-TIPS or the Capital Area Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477.

Meanwhile, Bailey remains in Travis County Jail and is being held without bond.
