Man sentenced to life without parole for 2 Austin murders committed on the same day

A Travis County jury found Eric Deon Rollins guilty of capital murder.

AUSTIN, Texas — A man will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing two people in Austin on April 28, 2022.

According to a press release from the Travis County District Attorney's Office, a jury convicted Eric Rollins of "capital murder of multiple persons" on Tuesday. He was then sentenced to life without parole.

KVUE reported in April and May 2022 that police responded to the area of East 12th Street and Webberville Road at around 12:44 p.m. on April 28. Officers located a woman who had been shot near her vehicle on Eastfield Avenue. The victim, 27-year-old Ishanae Alizia Rogers, was taken to a hospital and died a short time later.

Police said the suspect, Eric Deon Rollins, was reportedly seen fleeing the area in a red Ford Mustang immediately after the shooting.

Police also said at the time that Rollins was the suspect in another murder that happened 10 minutes after the first, on East Sixth Street in Downtown Austin. That victim, 29-year-old Michael Ray Satterwhite Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believed retaliation for a robbery earlier that morning was Rollins' motive.

“Our office is grateful to our dedicated staff and law enforcement partners who worked tirelessly to hold the defendant accountable and seek justice for the victim’s families,” Travis County District Attorney José Garza said. “We hope this verdict brings closure and peace to the families.”
