Austin man fraudulently used PAC money for clubs, trips, authorities say

The 39-year-old registered three political action committees with the Federal Election Commission in 2015 and 2016 to support then-candidates Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump

AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin man raised more than $500,000 for 2016 presidential candidates but then fraudulently diverted more than half of it for personal use, such as vacations, food and drinks, federal authorities allege in a 20-count indictment.

Kyle Gerald Prall, 39, registered three political action committees with the Federal Election Commission in 2015 and 2016 to support then-candidates Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, who are referred to in the indictment by pseudonyms. But he then created bank accounts, websites and used a shell company for each committee to launder money to himself, according to the indictment unsealed Tuesday in federal court.

Prall has been indicted on a series of charges, including mail fraud, wire fraud, money laundering, making false statements and falsification of federal records. He is scheduled to be arraigned in a federal courtroom before Judge Andrew W. Austin on Wednesday. He is entering a plea of not guilty.
