New development will add hundreds of homes in Taylor

The Castlewood development will add hundreds of new homes on FM 973.

TAYLOR, Texas — As Austin continues to grow, so do the surrounding communities. The City of Taylor is one of the latest to approve the construction of a mixed-use development.

The Austin Business Journal (ABJ) reports that the Taylor Planning and Zoning Commission approved a final plat for up to 131 residential lots in the Castlewood development, on a 41-acre plot across from Taylor High School on FM 973.

Commissioners also approved a preliminary plat for a second phase of the neighborhood, called Castlewood South, on 70 acres off FM 973 near Wesley Miller Drive. That site will eventually include up to 316 single-family homes, as well as park space and trails.

The first homes in Castlewood will likely go up for sale in the latter half of 2022.

Taylor, located about 25 minutes outside of Austin, might be a good option for families who are looking for more affordable homes than what they can find in Austin. The Austin Board of REALTORS' latest stats show that the median home price in Williamson County in June was $450,000 compared to $560,000 in Travis County.

The median home price in Taylor in July was $321,000, ABJ reports. It's not clear at this time how much homes in the Castlewood development will sell for.

Developers also plan to build dozens of townhomes for rent in the community, as well as a mixed-use building that will combine apartments and retail.
