Tallest building in Austin set to open this fall

Sixth and Guadalupe will be 66 stories and 875 feet high.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin's tallest building in set to open in the fall of 2023. Sixth and Guadalupe will be 66 stories and 875 feet high.

Construction is underway for nearly 350 apartment units. The tower will also have office space, retail and a restaurant called The Kitchen, run by Elon Musk’s brother, Kimbal.

"We wanted to do kind of an iconic building here," said Tony Curp, senior vice president of the Development for Kairoi Residential.

It is one of the companies working on the project. Curp said the tower makes sense with Austin's growth.

"A lot of companies are moving here," he said. "It is a very business-friendly environment in Texas, so a lot of companies are moving to town, just capitalizing on that."

Pre-leasing is now underway, including office space up to the 33rd floor. The parent company of Facebook, Meta, had planned to open offices in the building, but no longer plans to occupy that space. Twenty-three penthouses will top the tower.

"There is demand still for luxury rental, which is what this is, in Downtown Austin," Curp said. "This will be really top of the market. It will be a different product that currently exists in Austin. It’s mixed-use, kind of the 'live, work, play' model."

Sixth and Guadalupe is set up open in the fall of 2023.
