GEORGETOWN, Texas — Georgetown Independent School District is expanding its footprint with a groundbreaking for a new middle school, after voters approved funding for the project in the district's 2021 Bond.
The district will celebrate the groundbreaking of the new school, named Benold Middle School, on Wednesday morning. The school will be built in the Parmer Ranch neighborhood to accommodate growth in "the fast-growing western part of the district," according to a release from Georgetown ISD.
When the new campus opens, students zoned for the original Benold Middle School will be re-zoned to the new campus.
The old Benold Middle School campus will be redesigned and turned into a new elementary school. The funds to renovate the old campus would be approved by a future bond voted on by residents.
Construction is predicted to be completed by the summer of 2024 so that the school can be open for the 2024-25 school year.
Georgetown ISD has more than 13,200 students, with 10 elementary schools, four middle schools, three high schools and two alternative campuses.
