Construction will soon begin on new development featuring studio and one-bedroom apartments

The development, codenamed Bruno, will feature units ranging in size from 308 to 703 square feet. Some 3,000 square feet on the ground floor will feature retail.

A new “tiny home” style development will soon break ground on the city’s south side. StoryBuilt, an urban residential and commercial community developer, announced plans for the apartment complex to be built on 2001 South First Street.

The company said the development, which will have 38 studio units and four one-bedroom units, will likely be completed around this time next year.
Units will range in size from 308 to 703 square feet with an additional 3,000 square feet for commercial space on the ground floor.

“Bruno is one of only a handful of micro unit developments in Austin and the only one in South Austin with such proximity to downtown,” said Ross Wilson, Austin and San Antonio division president of StoryBuilt.

In an advisory released Wednesday, leaders at StoryBuilt said the units will be “attainably priced” and added they’re waiting to announce “formal pricing” until the project is closer to completion.

Wilson said StoryBuilt’s goal is to provide housing close to downtown and the small units play a role in that.

“Additionally, Bruno will include four affordable units that will be leased to tenants making 50% or less of the average median family income,” he said.

This is the fourth project on South First Street announced by StoryBuilt with the recent completion of the project codenamed Willa at 1600 South First, Frank at 900 South First along with the single-family homes now selling at Frank West at 900 South Second with access through Frank on South First.

Company leaders have also said they’ve purchased additional property on South First Street in the 1000 and 1100 blocks.
