City of Austin offering up to $800 in summer bonuses for temporary operations, maintenance jobs

Positions include cashiers, maintenance workers and parks grounds assistance. Pay starts at $20 per hour.

AUSTIN, Texas — Looking for summer work? The City of Austin's Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) is hiring nearly 50 full-time temporary positions to support operations and maintenance over the spring and summer.

Positions include cashiers, maintenance workers and parks grounds assistance. The City said pay starts at $20 per hour, and seasonal employees will be eligible to receive up to $800 in bonuses.

According to the City, the bonus structure relates to the number of hours worked, meaning an employee must work a certain number of hours until Oct. 31 to be eligible. The payouts are:

  • 400 hours worked = $400 bonus
  • 600 hours worked = $400 bonus

These operations and maintenance jobs aren't the only ones the PARD is hiring for. Earlier this month, the department announced that summer seasonal employees like lifeguards and camp counselors – which also earn a minimum of $20 per hour – would be eligible for up to an additional $750 throughout the season.

Just like the operations and maintenance jobs, the bonus structure is tied to hours worked, meaning that staff must work a certain number of hours between May 21 and Aug. 12 to be eligible.

Those payouts are:

  • 200 hours worked = $250 bonus
  • 300 hours worked = $250 bonus
  • 400 hours worked = $250 bonus

These seasonal employees also get a free bus pass and free parking at Zilker Park.
