Hundreds of pups take part in Mighty Texas Dog Walk

The 20th annual event benefited people with disabilities.

AUSTIN, Texas — There was a lot of yapping going on in South Austin on Saturday.

Hundreds of pups and their owners took part in the 20th Annual Mighty Texas Dog Walk near the Austin American-Statesman offices on South Congress Avenue from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The event included a one-mile walk near Lady Bird Lake, live music, a costume contest and vendors.

Cheryl Smith, who has 10 dogs, has attended nearly every year.

"It helps dogs that will help people, and it socializes dogs in general so they get along with each other," Smith said.

All proceeds from the event go toward supporting the dogs at Service Dogs Inc, a company that helps people with disabilities.
