AUSTIN, Texas — Scattered rain and storms brought some rain to parts of Central Texas on Saturday, but we're now looking ahead to a much more widespread rainfall for Saturday night into early Sunday morning.

This will be our most widespread rain of the weekend, and it could be heavy in spots with a few strong to severe storms not out of the question.

Isolated rain will be possible this evening, but the main storm chance moves in after midnight and continues into early Sunday morning.

The severe weather potential Saturday and Saturday night is still on low side, but the Storm Prediction Center has actually expanded the level 2 severe threat to include the Austin metro and the southern half of our KVUE area.

Hail and strong winds will be the main threats. There is a low risk for an isolated tornado. Just make sure you have a way to get weather alerts overnight.

Over the course of the weekend, we expect a fairly widespread 0.5 to 2 inches of rain with locally higher amounts. This is rain that we need, especially across the Hill Country, but there could be a few pockets of locally heavy rain and minor flooding.
