Forecast: Heating up Tuesday and Wednesday; isolated strong storm chances

Here are the latest updates from the KVUE Weather Team.

AUSTIN, Texas — Mother Nature is cranking up the heat Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing our hottest day of the year so far to Central Texas for the middle of the workweek.

Afternoon highs will be in the low 90s, but the "feels like" temperature will be closer to 100 degrees. Wednesday will likely be the hottest day of the year to date with a high near 93 degrees and a "feels like" temperature in the triple digits.

There is now a small chance for an isolated strong to severe storm across the Hill Country Tuesday afternoon and evening. These storms may not form at all, but if they do, they could develop along the dry line west of Interstate 35. They could also be strong and contain large hail.

Thankfully, some heat and humidity relief is already on the way. A cold front moves through Thursday with a 30% chance of rain and storms. While not widespread, if storms form, they could also be severe with the entire KVUE area under a "slight" –level 2 out of 5 – risk. This front will drop our temperatures noticeably for Friday and the weekend with highs in the low 80s or even upper 70s.

The weekend does not look like a washout, but we could see the return of isolated shower and storm chances by Saturday and Sunday.
