Central Texas weather: Drought conditions now showing marked improvement

During the month of February so far, we have accumulated a surplus of rainfall.

AUSTIN, Texas — Rain showers have kept Central Texas socked in with some less-than-stellar weather the past couple of days. In fact, during the month of February so far, we have accumulated a surplus of rainfall.

As of Feb. 19, Austin's Camp Mabry has a surplus of 0.85 inches of rainfall.

Here's a look at the drought monitor from Feb. 13. Widespread moderate to severe drought conditions were reported across Central Texas.

Thanks to heavy rainfall last week, drought conditions have improved this week over much of the area, with the exception of increasing extreme drought conditions in southern Caldwell County.

Our climate outlook for the next eight to 14 days continues to forecast slightly above-normal precipitation, which could keep our improvement going strong.
