AUSTIN, Texas — The month of April is beginning with cooler-than-average temperatures, but that may not be the case for long with much warmer weather in the forecast by next week.

In the meantime, sunny and cool weather is here to close out the workweek. Thursday morning was quite chilly, with 30s and 40s areawide, but the afternoon was pleasant with highs in the low 70s. Keep in mind that the average afternoon high for this time of the year is 77 degrees for Camp Mabry.

Friday morning will be another chilly one with lows in the upper 30s to mid-40s, and then another round of low 70s for the afternoon. Friday will return to a southeasterly breeze, and we're expecting a bit more cloud cover as moisture levels start to increase.

A weak disturbance heading our way from the Pacific will bring in a mostly cloudy sky and small rain chances by Easter weekend.

Despite the added cloud cover, there's no need to cancel any outdoor plans for the Easter weekend. Rain chances continue to look quite small, and the current forecast calls for just a 20% chance of showers both Saturday and Sunday.

The mornings will not be as chilly, with lows in the 50s, but the afternoons will stay cooler than average for this time of the year with highs in the low to mid-70s. The real warm-up will come next week.

Hope you're ready for warmer temps! Temperatures are expected to jump from about 5 degrees below average to 10 degrees above average in the span of a week.

With forecast highs currently in the upper 80s by mid-next week, some areas may even see their first 90-degree day of the year! The average first 90-degree day at Austin Camp Mabry is April 14. The earliest 90-degree day on record was Jan. 30, 1971.

If you're wondering when our average first 100-degree day is, that's on July 9.

Rainfall chances are slim. In fact, the KVUE Weather Team is not tracking any systems that would bring significant rainfall to Central Texas for the rest of this week.
