AUSTIN, Texas — To everyone from across the world visiting Central Texas this weekend, we hope you have an enjoyable stay as you head to South By Southwest (SXSW) and Rodeo Austin!
Here's what we're tracking for the weather this weekend.
Friday evening
While we expect highs to top out in the lower 80s, we're tracking a cold front that will drop in from the north during the early evening hours Friday.
That will likely mean the front will move in during the Texas Stars game against the San Jose Barracuda. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.,, and we'll be in the mid-70s for pregame and mid- to lower 60s by the end of the game.
This weekend
As a result of the cold front, the first night of SXSW and Rodeo Austin could be a bit of a chilly occasion. We'll also have lows getting down to the 40s for your Saturday morning.
Additionally, we'll have highs below average this weekend, with lower 60s on Saturday and upper 60s Sunday. Kickoff for Austin FC's game against St. Louis is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, and temperatures could be in the upper 50s at kickoff.
The average high for this time of year is 71.
Next week
While this weekend will be cool with that northerly wind, expect us to be a bit on the warmer side as we start next week. Highs Monday could be in the lower 70s, which is around average, but highs Tuesday and Wednesday should get to the upper 70s, near 80 as winds shift to a more southerly flow.
While most of next week will remain dry, there are signs at the end of and past the seven-day forecast that we could see a healthy active pattern across Central Texas. The eight- to 14 day precipitation outlook shows above-average precipitation across the Lone Star State.
While models do show rainfall estimate getting to around 1 inch or even 2 in spots, this is still seven to eight days out, so there's a lot to hash out between now and then.
Summary
If you're headed here for SXSW, Rodeo Austin or any of the sporting events here in Central Texas this weekend, it's best to pack all kinds of clothes for your visit, as we'll have warmth as well as some cool moments. It's also a good idea to bring an umbrella if you're here the whole week of SXSW to prep for those possible rain chances.
