Local travel agents say business is booming now that more families are vaccinated

The top destinations for Austin families are Cancun and Cozumel, Mexico, Costa Rica and Hawaii.

AUSTIN, Texas — As more Austin families are getting vaccinated each day, more families are also booking vacations. Local travel agents say business is booming after a long, quiet year.

Lainey Melnick is a travel agent for Dream Vacations in West Lake Hills in West Austin.

She has clients across the country but primarily focuses on the Central Texas area. She said this April has been her busiest month in over a year, with local families reaching out to travel within the country but also interested in international destinations.

"I know there's pent-up demand, but I really didn't expect as much as I've seen since April," said Melnick. "I have been booking Montenegro, Croatia, as well as South Polynesia. I've got a ton of people who want to do over-the-water bungalows and want to splurge. They've been inside for a year and they're ready to get out."

She said the most popular destinations for Austin residents have been Cancun and Cozumel, Mexico, Costa Rica and Hawaii.

She said it's important to check the COVID-19 travel requirements for every destination before booking.
