Texas' price for a gallon of gas is lowest in the U.S., AAA says

Texas drivers will be saving at the pump this Thanksgiving travel week.

DALLAS — Hitting the road this week? We have some good news, despite all the hustle and bustle.

Texas has the lowest gas prices in the country, according to AAA.

The average price for a gallon of gas in Texas this week is $2.75, which is 22 cents cheaper than this time last year. And it's the lowest average price among all states in the U.S., AAA says.

The national average for a gallon of gas is currently $3.28. While that's higher than the Texas average, it's down 36 cents from Thanksgiving 2022.

North Texas gas prices are right around the state average: $2.80 in Dallas County, $2.78 in Tarrant County, $2.76 in Denton County and $2.74 in Collin County. A year ago, North Texas drivers were paying about $2.89 per gallon, on average.

You'll still find a pricier gallon of gas out there; a few counties in far West Texas and the Texas Panhandle are in the $3.30-$3.50 range.

You can check out the average gas prices for every Texas county here.

The other good news for Texas drivers this week is that we're not expecting anything too problematic with the weather.

Overall, we don't anticipate any widespread disruptions to travel pre-Thanksgiving. The same storm system that brought North Texas rain this past weekend, brings rain and storms to the eastern half of the country through Wednesday.

Most of the country looks quiet on Thanksgiving, but we'll keep an eye on a disturbance south of North Texas. That disturbance could bring some rain mainly to areas along the Texas coast.
