Former Longhorn Ryan Watts taken 195th overall by Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024 NFL Draft

Watts was a major contributor in a secondary that improved drastically in 2023.

AUSTIN, Texas — Former Texas Longhorns defensive back Ryan Watts is headed to the Steel City.

Watts was taken by the Pittsburgh Steelers 195th overall in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft Saturday.

After spending the first two years of his collegiate career at Ohio State, the Little Elm, Texas, native shined in his junior and senior seasons with Texas, racking up 91 tackles in Burnt Orange and earning an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection in 2022.

Watts is a big corner at 6 foot, 3 inches tall and weighing 208 pounds and may transition to safety in the NFL.

Watts will now compete for a spot on the Steelers' roster through training camp and the preseason. He may also spend some time on the practice squad.
