Spurs eager to bring NBA hoops and more to Austin

"I think it's going to be a lot of fun," said Tre Jones.

SAN ANTONIO — For the second straight season, the San Antonio Spurs will be bringing NBA hoops to Austin.

The Spurs will celebrate "Spurs Week" in the state's capital with plenty of events, concerts, and more for fans in Austin.

The team will also take over the Moody Center with games against the defending champions, the Denver Nuggets, and the Brooklyn Nets.

This is a considerable effort to give back to Austin fans who cannot visit San Antonio during the regular season.

"We got a win there last year, I remember," guard Tre Jones said. "That was a lot of fun playing in Moody Center. It gets loud in there."

The events start today with the "Spurs Cup" at Bouldin Acres South, and the fun continues on Friday with an SXSW community concert with forward Keldon Johnson at Auditorium Shores at 6:15 p.m.

"I know the fans in Austin that aren't able to make it to as many games here definitely bring that energy there, and that's something that we feel and look forward to. I think it's going to be a lot of fun," said Jones.

And for as much fun there will be on and off the court, the Spurs will be committing time and efforts to helping improve the Austin community.

Franchise legend David Robinson will participate in a community conversation on Friday at the Holdsworth Center. Devin Vassell will also participate in the Community Park Takeover event on Saturday at Doves Spring Court at 1 p.m.

Making a return to Austin will be guard Blake Wesley.

He spent plenty of time with the Austin Spurs and knows how special the city and fans are regarding pro-hoops in the state's capital.

"I can't wait to play there on Friday and Sunday. I'm excited," guard Blake Wesley said. "It's a good atmosphere. It's a good city. It's a big city— a lot to do there. I'm excited. Everybody's excited for the second year."

And it is more than just San Antonio games fans can take in.
