Legacy Longhorn baseball player having career season leading into NCAA tournament

Kody Clemens is making a name for himself on the team that started a long baseball career for his father, Roger Clemens.

AUSTIN — The youngest son of Longhorn legend Roger Clemens is having a career season.

Kody Clemens is currently tied for third all-time in University of Texas baseball history with 19 home runs this season.

The junior second baseman is also a semifinalist for college baseball’s Golden Spikes Award: an award given to the top amateur baseball player in the country.

Clemens is the heart and soul of the Big 12 Conference’s regular-season champion. He is expected to be selected in the early rounds of Major League Baseball’s June amateur draft.

So, this upcoming postseason as a Longhorn is of importance to him.

His brother, Kacy, also played for Texas and experienced the College World Series in Omaha as a freshman.

Their father experienced the College World Series as well and led UT to a national title during his storied career as the pitcher for Texas in the early 1980’s.
