If you ask Demo Odems where he is from, he will proudly tell you, Austin. Odems glows with pride whenever you ask him about his L.B.J. High School roots, "LBJ is family, it's home, it's everything to me".
Odems played with a purpose in an LBJ uniform. He was a speedy and skilled receiver who earned a spot in the LBJ shrine of past Jaguar greats which is located inside of the athletics facility on the backside of LBJ High School. Odems referred to Austin I.S.D. as the "mecca" of high school sports in Central Texas while he was a Jaguar in the early 1990's. Odems said, "To come to LBJ was a challenge. I was excited about coming here to compete".
Odems and running back Sedrick Shaw both signed with the University of Iowa back in 1992 and played for legendary Hawkeyes head coach, Hayden Fry. Odems said, "Coach Fry put together a coaching staff with Texas ties and recruited well in the state of Texas".
Demo produced three solid seasons as a receiver for Hayden Fry, averaging 17-yards per receptions.
Odems entered the coaching business after graduation from Iowa and began as an assistant coach for his high school alma mater, LBJ and later became the Jaguars head coach.
Odems has ascended the coaching ranks on the college level since LBJ and is about to begin his 5th season coaching college football. He is currently the associate head coach/wide receivers coach for the division 1/FCS level program, Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogodches, Texas.
Odems has extended a tradition as a coach. A tradition of referring to his receiving corp as the, "Butt Naked Posse" or the BNP. Odems said, "it pays homage to Iowa and the group we started there. We use that term, we always talk about stripping defensive back down".
Odems is responsible for recruting this area of Texas. An area from Waco to Corpus Christi. If you happen to see the former LBJ Jaguar great along the recruiting trail, he'll probably greet you with this, "Axe 'Em 'Jacks"!
