ARLINGTON, Texas — With their 49-21 Big 12 championship win over Oklahoma State Saturday, Texas has done their part to land a spot in the College Football Playoff. Now they wait to see if they'll get the help they need.
The win also means that Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian earned a nice payday. According to USA Today Sports, Sarkisian gets a $100,000 bonus for winning the Big 12 Conference championship game. He's already earned $25,000 for leading the Horns to six wins and bowl eligibility. He got another $100,000 for getting the team to the Big 12 title game.
The Texas coach may not be done earning incentives, though. There are a few more he may be in line for, including $75,000 for leading the Horns to the CFP semifinal and another $125,000 if they get to the CFP final. And if Texas wins it all at NRG Stadium in Houston, Sarkisian will earn $250,000.
He does have other incentives, which you can see on the USA Today Sports list. It also lists out bonuses for other college head football coaches.
