AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Transit Partnership (ATP) is asking for the community’s help planning stations for the Austin Light Rail project.
“We’ve identified potential locations for stations on the alignment, but we want to share that out with the public and also get their feedback,” Peter Mullan, the executive vice president for architecture and urban design for ATP, said.
The several billion dollar light rail project will add almost 10 new miles of light rail and 15 light rail stations through the city.
On Saturday morning, the ATP held an open house for people to fill out surveys and talk with members of ATP about their recommendations for the light rail.
“This is a project for the public, for the community, so we have to make sure that it’s serving the community to the absolute best of our ability,” Mullan said.
Mullan said since the last feedback session, a suggestion from a community member has already turned into progress.
“We’re studying the potential of an additional station downtown, which is an idea that came specifically out of an engagement that we did last spring," Mullan said.
Mullan said it’s ideas and feedback like these that help the ATP plan a line that Austinites will love and use.
“That really keeps us going because, you know, we know what we’re doing is really going to be meaningful to people in Austin,” Mullan said.
Anyone who missed this open house still has a chance to share their feedback. The next open house will be on Monday, Feb. 12 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Baker Center. The full list of open houses can be found on ATP’s website.
ATP also has an option to share suggestions virtually from now until March 4.
