AUSTIN, Texas — An investigation has begun after an inmate at the Travis County Correctional Complex died while in custody.
According to the Travis County Sheriff's Office (TCSO), 63-year-old Robert Valentino Muguia was found unresponsive in his unit just after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. CPR was administered, but Muguia could not be resuscitated.
Munguia was booked into custody on Nov. 26, 2023, after he was charged with injury to a child or elderly.
An investigation by TCSO’s Internal Affairs Unit, Criminal Investigations Division, the Texas Rangers and the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office is underway, as is customary with any death in custody.
Munguia's autopsy was conducted on May 23, 2024, and the final report is still pending.
