"I announced today at the station that after many great years at KVUE, reporting to the wonderful people of Austin on things that I hope have been very important to them, I've decided to take some much needed time off, and explore some other opportunities. I want you all to know that I'll miss you all. Thanks again, for welcoming me into your homes all these many years." -- Melissa Gale, June 26, 2012 My dream as soon as I left UT was to somehow make it back to KVUE in Austin. I knew it would be a journey, but I was so happy to get that call 14 years ago that they needed me for the Daybreak newscast. I have been on Daybreak since then, and while it's a tough schedule, I simply love the viewers we have! I've worn many hats in broadcasting as a reporter, producer and anchor, at stations like KTSM in El Paso and Amarillo's KVII-TV. Before coming to Austin, I was doing all three jobs at WOWK-TV in Huntington, W. Va, where I also met my husband Clint. I'm proud of the work I've done during my 20 years in broadcasting. I was recently nominated for my first Lone Star Emmy award. I've won "Best Enterprise Reporting" from the West Virginia Associated Press, Best Spot News Reporting from the TX Associated Press, and the coveted Anson Jones Award for Medical Reporting. In 2003, I received the Texas Media Award from the American Cancer Society and in 2006 was awarded "Austin Women in Radio and Television's TV Personality of the Year." In 2007, I received a First Place award from the Associated Press for a story on bereavement photography. I really value the time I get to spend in the community working for charities. I've been involved for several years with the Down Syndrome of Central Texas, and for the last 9 years I've also given my time to the March of Dimes, emceeing events for the Austin Chapter and helping with all of their fundraisers...including the annual March For Babies. When I'm not on television I enjoy traveling, interior design, all kinds of music and spending time with Clint, my husband of 15 years. I have a wonderful stepson Colby who is 23, and a beautiful daughter Payton who is 8. I'm on KVUE twice a day... anchoring KVUE Daybreak, and then I'm back at 11 a.m. for KVUE Midday. Thanks for watching and feel free to let us know how we're doing!
