Multiple suspected fentanyl overdoses, including 1 fatal, reported last week in Williamson County

The death occurred in the Brushy Creek area, and one of the other overdoses occurred in Jarrell.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas — The Williamson County Sheriff's Office handled four suspected fentanyl overdoses, including one death, last week, according to KVUE's media partners at the Austin-American Statesman.

The Statesman reports that a woman in her 30s died in the Brushy Creek area. The three other non-fatal overdoses were among people in their 20s.

A sheriff's sergeant told the Statesman these suspected overdoses happened over during the week of Jan. 14 and were investigated by the Williamson County Sheriff's Office. One of the three non-fatal overdoses occurred in Jarrell, but the sergeant didn't now where the other two occurred.

The sergeant told the Statesman four is an exceptionally high number of overdoses in one week, though not entirely uncommon.

In 2022, Williamson County saw 57 suspected overdoses, 35 of them fatal.

Williamson County does not currently have available statistics for the total number of suspected overdoses for January. However, a Round Rock Police Department spokesperson told the Statesman that the department is investigating a suspected fentanyl overdose death that happened on Jan. 9.
